Smart camera maker Wyze experienced a security glitch that allowed some users to view footage from other users’ cameras. The glitch occurred during an outage caused by a problem with Wyze’s cloud computing partner AWS. Approximately 13,000 users were affected by the security issue, with about 1,500 users able to view the wrong thumbnails and enlarged footage from other cameras. Wyze attributed the incident to a third-party caching client library and has added new security measures to prevent a recurrence. This is not the first security incident for Wyze, as a data leak occurred in 2019, exposing customer email addresses and camera feed information. Other smart cameras, including those from Ring, have also faced similar security breaches.
